A Cynical Hippy Speaks UP
Darkness Pervades My Thoughts
The Arrest of Julian Assange Disturbs Even Me
Democracy as it’s called in the US died this week. A publisher of documents highlighting the US government’s crimes of all sorts reached its inevitable conclusion this week with the arrest of Julian Assange by British police. We knew this would happen. We didn’t want it. Freedom of the press was at stake. And even though I knew this arrest was imminent it still darkened me immensely. We as citizens have no recourse except to protest. I’m too disabled to march any more so I write pointed messages to those that venture my way and read my scratchings against the US state. I also write about the ecological damage done by global poisoning/warming. Which disturbs me even more than the persecution and destruction of brave whistleblowers that risk everything to give we citizens the real truth. For that we should all be grateful. Most of my heroes are whistleblowers. BTW: The late Chess Master, Bobby Fischer was my first American hero.
As many other writers of much better quality than myself have done this week I refer readers to seek out and read those essays. Just to name a few — without links, just Google or use your search engine these names to get a link to these sites — I mention just a few worthy of viewing.
Mint Press News. Common Dreams. Counterpunch, seek Friday’s Jeffery St. Clair’s roaming charges piece. Caitlin Johnstone. The Intercept’s Glen Greenwald. Saturday’s WSWS, World Socialist Web Site. Truthdig, Chris Hedges is always good. Jimmy Dore, Lee Camp’s Redacted Tonight on RT or Youtube, Abby Martin, also on YouTube. Truthdig has a whole archive on Julian Assange, Many others have chimed in on the egregious nature of this travesty.
I also found a Twitter person(below\/) that detailed, in a viewer friendly manner some of Julian’s exposed crimes of the state: Very telling as to why they don’t want this exposed. I’ve yet to see anything that actually affected “national security”, the always, go-to when secrets are to be kept or criminalized.

I’’m sure there are others also as this affects journalists the world over even if a good many of them are too fucking stupid to notice. I’m just waiting ‘till tomorrow morning to see what the Sunday Funnies have in store.(news shows) I’ll be sure to take notes. And yes, I will write to my hearts content before they deem me too dangerous to be free and come to arrest me. If that’s the case I’ll have the last laugh as I pull the trigger on my Smith&Wesson and put a bullet in my brain. I refuse to be a political prisoner if it comes down to that. Yes I’m cynical as hell about all of this. Yes it’s happening here in America land of the sorta free and home of the intolerant assholes. Dystopia is darkening the land in ever greater waves of despair. This latest episode of criminalizing exposure of crimes by the state just cements a precedent to assure further arrests in the near future. Every administration has proven to be worse than the preceding one. More civil rights are being squashed with the iron boot of ‘big brother’ as protests are criminalized and the “free press” is made a slave to the dictates of the state. The internet showed everybody what real press freedom is about, so now, they will enact stricter controls as time progresses. I’ve seen lots of chatter on this very thing. We already have the tech giants working as govt proxies to censor dissent. My desk top is almost full of links to sites just to avoid Google’s registry of my searches. I also use Duck Duck Go for things I want kept hidden. (At least that’s what they claim.)
I’ll end my dark discussion on these disturbing matters. I’ll go back to my book on stoicism this afternoon. I now want to look into the original cynics of ancient Greece. I’ll read some more Thomas Ligotti, he’s real dark in manners of horror. His story called, The Lost Art of Twilight is a superior vampire tale; found in “Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe”. I’ll watch the news tomorrow AM to see where the consensus is on Assange. I bet it’s not good. How can it? The major corporate news sources have their sponsors to please. Accurate news isn’t very high on their list of priorities. It might be in the future when they’re arrested for being too accurate anyway. Yeah, dark as hell and cold as a drafty cell. We have to take a stand against these losses of civil rights. Lose this and dystopia will all people ever see. Lose this and the news that’s a joke becomes overt, blatant propaganda. We’re all losing this battle and need some political will to change it which I just haven’t seen yet. The major candidates are mum. I’m not! Peace, The Ol’ Hippy
